If you are not eating like this, you are killing your body

The latest health phrase or trend on everyone's lips is Anti-inflammatory. Most use the word "Anti-inflammatory" for when meds are needed after an injury to reduce the swelling and inflammation. HOWEVER, it is actually an amazing benefit that occurs naturally in many plant based foods!!! Yet why is this such a "hot trend" right now you may ask? Well, it's been around for a long time but the term "alkalizing" has been used in the past as appose to anti-inflammatory.

People are also becoming more aware of the harmful side-effects some foods can have on the body, especially after the crazy diet fabs that have flooded the health industry the last couple of years. Anti-inflammatory is your golden ticket to amazing health and if you ain't doing it yet, your body might be in for a lot of trouble......

Therefore, if you are eating the opposite i.e. Inflammatory or acid forming foods, you are literally sizzling your body like acid would on a beautiful car.

The worst part is that it is happening from the inside out! Meaning you will probably only start to see and feel the consequences of acid forming foods when damage has already been done.

Good news is, you can slow down this sizzling process AND even reverse some of the damage that these foods have caused by changing your diet to an anti-inflammatory alkalizing way of eating (and living). You will see that with many of these incredible foods, they also contain good sources of antioxidants....so surprise surprise , these foods are mostly brightly colored fruit and veg (green been the ideal)!!

To help you understand what happens to the body when inflammation causing food is eating, here is a brief description. Acidosis is a state your body can reach when the acidity level is too high and it needs to take action to help slow down and minimize damage. In a constant state of acidosis, your body uses its available minerals to help balance its pH levels. Calcium is the most important mineral your body uses to neutralize acid. When your body repeatedly leaches calcium from your bones, you may start to develop conditions such as osteoporosis. Sadly this is a chronic, extremely painful and debilitating disease that is often only diagnosed when a lot damage has already been done to your bones.

Acidosis is also a major factor in stressing your body and increasing your cortisol levels, which affects sleep patterns and weight gain.

High acidity can cause kidney stones and poor kidney function (common problem in the bodybuilding world). here is a list of other health factors that can effect your health due to high acid diet.

- damage to joints by eating away at cartilage

- heart disease

- skin problems including excessive dryness, acne, psoriasis and breakouts

- low immune system due to the body constantly fighting inflammation in the body

- slow metabolism due to each cell functioning at a very low percentage from the unbalanced PH of the body.

- mood and emotional disorder like depression, anxiety & nervousness

- headaches

- poor digestion (e.g. heart burn, acid reflux)

- premature aging at a RAPID SPEED.....this will show up in the skin, hair, bones, nails, teeth and all the organs inside which you can't see!!

- exhaustion and body plateauing

Your body constantly works to maintain a proper pH balance between 7.35 and 7.45. As a reference, the pH of pure water is 7. When your pH levels fall below 7.35, clinically you have acidosis and your central nervous system will start to depress. If your pH level falls below 7, you have severe acidosis, which can cause a coma and ultimately become fatal. When your pH level rises above 7.45, you have alkalosis. Alkalosis makes your nervous system hypersensitive, resulting in muscle spasms and convulsions. It becomes obvious very quickly that our body keeps a fine balance between the 2 extremes and going too far in either direction isn't healthy or safe at all!

To give you an idea of what foods cause severe acidity.....take a look at these (scary seen that it is the diet craze most people are falling for)...

  1. Meat (the NO 1 most acid forming and body eroding food)

  2. Fish

  3. Anything with dairy

  4. Eggs

  5. Alcohol

  6. Nicotine/Drugs

  7. Refined Grains

  8. Processed Soy

  9. Processed Sugars and Artificial sweeteners (corn syrup, sugar, brown sugar, cane sugar, cane juice, dextrose, sucrose, sucralose, aspartame, stevia products with added GMO corn sources such as maltodextrin)

  10. Highly Processed Foods (low-quality cereals, chips, snacks)

  11. Coffee (we suggest an organic, fair-trade and even low-acid coffee if you have to have your daily cuppa)

  12. Fried Foods

  13. Anything fast food

  14. Sodas

  15. energy drinks

The following foods can be consumed in moderation (which means not too much and preferable WITH alkalizing foods)

  1. Vinegars (except apple cider vinegar, which is alkaline)

  2. Processed chocolate

  3. Wheat

  4. Roasted nuts and seeds

  5. Roasted nut butters (non-raw)

  6. Soy-based processed proteins (tofu, tempeh, veggie burgers)- Choose whole forms of soy such as miso (fermented) or edamame (shelled green soybeans) instead and try making your own veggie burgers at home.

  7. Non-sprouted or non-soaked grains, except for millet and wild rice (See the benefits of soaking and sprouting here and test your first batch out of overnight oats if you haven’t already!)

  8. Natural sugars like coconut or maple, agave, etc.

  9. Dried fruits with added sugars or sulfites

And here are some examples of Alkalizing foods that can be eaten in abundance......not to point out the obvious but these foods are all part of a plant based diet!!!

  1. Leafy greens

  2. Vegetables (all

  3. Fruits (all, especially lemons and limes)

  4. Soaked and properly prepared beans and legumes

  5. Plant-based whole food- based (non-GMO, preferably raw) protein powders

  6. Superfoods and green powders

  7. Raw nuts and seeds

  8. Raw nut butters

  9. Dates and Dried Figs (Keep dried fruit to a minimal compared to fresh fruit, but it does leave an alkaline ash in the body.)

  10. Soaked and/or sprouted grains (especially wild rice and millet, which actually need no soaking or sprouting but are alkaline by nature)

  11. Seaweed (spirulina, nori, kelp, dulse)

  12. Herbal Tea

  13. Apple Cider Vinegar (raw, with the mother)

  14. Sauerkraut and kimchi

  15. Coconut kefir

  16. Water

  17. Green Juices and Smoothies

  18. Liquid alcohol-free stevia or stevia glycerite

  19. Herbs and spices

  20. Sprouts

Unfortunately the western diet doesn't allow for balanced or healthy especially when it comes to meat, dairy and junk food. Even our Doctors prescribe "high protein" breakfast with a cup of black butter coffee "to start your day right".....when in actual fact what you are starting your day with is a large bubbling pot of acid in the stomach, which is the perfect destructive poison for the body.

So what can be done to make sure you don't end up crippled and looking like 70 when in actual fact you are 40??? It's simple, cut down on the acid forming foods, increase the alkalizing foods and once you achieve that perfect PH balance....................and then MAINTAIN IT!!!

The list above is a great place to start!! Remember, no one is saying never to eat another cookie in your life again or to completely expel coffee from your daily ritual. What I am saying is that it is vital to FIRST bring those PH levels back to normal AND THEN eat a balanced diet, not over doing it on the acid foods, avoiding processed foods and keeping the alkalizing foods on point to make sure your body stays in great health!
